Beds come in a variety of sizes, and so does the bedding that goes on them. Making sure you’re choosing the right size pieces for your bed is an important part of your decor as well as your overall comfort.
In order to choose a duvet cover in the proper size, you must know exactly what size your mattress is. Mattress come in six different sizes: twin, extra-long twin, full (also called double), queen, king and California king. The sizes are as follows:
Mattress Size Measurement (Width x Length)
Twin: 39 x 75 inches
Extra-Long Twin: 39 x 80 inches
Full: 54 x 75 inches
Queen: 60 x 80 inches
King: 76 x 80 inches
California King: 72 x 84 inches
A standard mattress depth is between 7 and 9 inches. Other mattress depths range from between 10 and 15 inches (deep) to between 16 and 22 inches (extra deep). It’s important to know the depth of your mattress so you can determine if you need a regular comforter or an oversized one.
Comforter Size Approximate Measurement (Width x Length)
Twin 68 x 86 inches
Full 80 x 90 inches
Full/Queen 88 x 88 inches
Queen 86 x 94 inches
King 110 x 96 inches
Once you’ve determined the size of your comforter you can choose your duvet cover. These are labeled as twin, extra-long twin, etc. and come in regular sizes, just like the comforter. Oversized duvet covers are also available to accommodate oversized comforters.
