With springtime right around the corner, it’s time for spring-cleaning themed weekly roundup! This week, we’re focused on making the most of small spaces.
First, let’s talk about those extra possessions you’ve gathered over the last year. Whether it’s a few new pieces of cookware or a hand-me-down loveseat, extra items really add up in a small space. Apartment Therapy’s “The Cure” is an 8-step spring-cleaning program designed to rid your apartment of extra “stuff”. Even if you don’t follow the program, do take time to go through your items and make separate piles for Craigslist, Freecycle and Goodwill.
Next, let’s improve kitchen organization. In small spaces, you likely have all your pots and pans stacked on top of one another, which can be a real pain when the pan you need is at the bottom of the stack. One of the most popular kitchen organization Pinterest pins is this one by Martha Stewart. It’s an ingenious tip to turn a bakeware organizer on its side and secure it the inside of a cabinet wall. Voila! Instant storage for stacking pans.
If you live in a small city apartment, you know just how important it is to stay organized. A little clutter can really overwhelm your space. That’s why we love this brilliant “landing strip” tip. Whether it’s a hook by the front door for your coat and the dog leash or a small basket to hold mail, keys and other items, a landing strip is the best way to keep the outside world from invading your space.
No room for a home office? If you work from home, you need a small, dedicated office space; otherwise, bills, papers and projects will take over the apartment. Spring clean your closets and convert one into a “cloffice” by adding a small desk and shelves. This cloffice Pinterest board is full of inspirational tips.
Finally, for some added small space inspiration, check out how this Brooklyn couple lives in a 240-square foot studio – and they love it!
