The Elegant Office

An elegant office space speaks volumes about the occupant. Ideally, it should make superiors, subordinates, and customers feel comfortable and inviting while portraying you as a competent professional. This applies to both men and women.

Creating a space like this isn’t difficult. With a little planning and thought, you should be able to come up with a look that works for you.

Most decorating projects begin with wall color, and this one is no different. If you’re able to paint, choose a color that embodies the image you want to project: neutrals are more conservative and stable-looking, while bolder colors suggest creativity.

Keep furnishings minimal and functional. A desk and chair, or a bookcase and couple of guest chairs may be all that you need. If you have a larger space, you can add a sitting area to make guests feel more comfortable.

Keeping things neat is of the utmost importance. A cluttered or messy office does not inspire confidence in prospective clients or superiors. A desk valet will help you corral frequently used items while keeping them in reach. Keep other items on the desktop to a minimum: a framed photo or two, a blotter, your desk organizer, and that’s about it.

Soften the look of the room with wall art and plants. They add a human touch to the space and make it more accessible. Plants also supply fresh air, which is important in a space where windows aren’t able to be opened, and can actually boost productivity.
